02 — The thesis
A different training environment.
“Limit your kid’s screen time” is good advice for now, but most people are imprecise about why. The problem is less the technology itself than the training environment on the other side of the glass. Most software built for children is optimized for engagement, so it teaches them to expect an immediate reward and something new whenever their attention drifts. Real life rarely works that way. Understanding usually comes after a stretch of confusion, and a child has to learn to stay with that confusion long enough to form a model of what is happening.
A better heuristic than minimize screens is choose the training environment that best helps your child build attention, reasoning, and a world model. That is the standard Adaptable is designed around. We judge it by whether it helps a child reflect, reason about cause and effect, and tolerate uncertainty. Retention is not something we optimize for.
03 — Our first product
Night Nanny.
Night Nanny is the first product built on Adaptable. It starts at the bedside because that is where AI has to earn trust first, overnight, in the hours before anyone in the house is fully awake.
Night Nanny listens to your baby, learns which sounds actually help them settle, and gives you a clear account of the night in the morning. You can override it at any time. Augmented parenting, not automated parenting.
Sleep is where Adaptable begins. The same approach, learning one child closely and helping in ways specific to them, extends to routines, language, and play as the child gets older.
The nursery responds before you wake up.
Listens to the room, responds in a parent’s own voice, and learns what actually settles each baby.

04 — Where it goes
Stays in the room. Changes form.
Night Nanny stays in the nursery while your baby is young, improving with each software release and learning their routines over time. When the monitor stage ends, what it has learned moves with the child into a new form instead of starting over.

Night Nanny helps parents through the hardest hours of infancy. It flags the conditions they have asked to be told about and tries to settle the baby before crying escalates, learning that baby's patterns as it goes.

Parents should not have to buy a new device every time the product improves. Night Nanny gets better through software updates, and each release adds support for sleep, routines, and early language.

A baby monitor is useful for the first year or two. When the child outgrows it, the hardware changes to fit the next stage, and what it has learned about the child carries over.
